City Surf Series Postponed for Second Time

The City Surf Series has moved once again – this time from April this year to October and November.

The series will now begin in Port Alfred on 8 October, before heading to Nelson Mandela Bay, Vic Bay, Cape Town, Richards Bay, and then returning to Nelson Mandela Bay for the final stop, the VW SA Open of Surfing, on the 11th of November.

“The current circumstances surrounding the uncertainty of the Covid-19 travel restrictions and mass gatherings have created an extremely tough environment for sports events,” said Daniel Quinta, CEO of Accelerate Sport. “The health and safety of our surfers, staff, officials, and spectators are of paramount importance to us. We believe that this is the best preventative action we can take against the continued spread of Covid-19.”

The City Surf Series is an Accelerate Sport-owned and managed surfing property. Accelerate Sport has collaborated with Surfing South Africa and the World Surf League in order to create and facilitate a competitive platform for WSL Qualifying Series events for local South African surfers.

2021 provisional dates and venues:

• 8 – 10 October: Royal St. Andrews Hotel Port Alfred Classic

• 15 – 17 October: Nelson Mandela Bay Pro

• 22 – 24 October: George Vic Bay Classic

• 28 – 31 October: Cape Town Pro

• 5 – 7 November: Richards Bay Pro
