Kaizer Chiefs have announced that they’ve extended their partnership agreement with medical aid scheme Medshield for another three years.
The agreement will see Medshield cater to the club’s medical aid needs. Players, technical team and staff will be the beneficiaries of the arrangement, saving Chiefs and the individuals substantial costs, which the club says it will reinvest in the running of the business.
Established in 1968 (two years before Kaizer Chiefs’ formation) and with nearly 80 000 members and a beneficiary base in excess of 160 000, Medshield is one of South Africa’s leading medical aid providers.

“We are delighted that a reputable scheme such as Medshield has agreed to partner with our brand and we believe both of us will benefit immensely from this partnership,” said Kaizer Chiefs Executive Chairman Kaizer Motaung. “Football business is evolving and overheads are escalating all the time. With a trusted medical aid provider, we will surely be able to offset some of these costs and reinvest in the running of the business. We always believe in quality and ensuring that our players are in tip-top condition. Together with Medshield, we will work hard to make sure that players and technical teams are looked after from a medical point of view.”
All members of the club’s general staff will also be brought on board to obtain medical cover for themselves and their families.
“I am not going to reveal the figures, but I can say that it’s a good partnership,” said Kaizer Chiefs Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung. “This partnership is very important in our expansion…in expanding into a women’s game. We can only do that if we have corporate partnerships and partners who are willing to invest. It’s not about monetary matters, but it’s about the value we can give them and the value they give us in terms of the opportunities for our players. Health is very important for us…players get injured and also players’ families are taken care of, so not only is it beneficial from the marketing point of view, but the value that we give to our employees is very important too.”
In addition, for the forthcoming three years, the Kaizer Chiefs medical team kit will be adorned with Medshield branding during matches and the scheme will enjoy prominent marketing opportunities provided by Chiefs.
