Sports Industry Mourns Death of James Monteith

The South African sports industry is mourning the death of former Sport Industry Group Managing Director James Monteith.

He died suddenly on the 30th of December at the age of just 47.

“James was a visionary pioneer and perhaps the first classic media/advertising specialist in South Africa to recognise the true future potential of the sports sponsorship business,” said long-time friend and business partner, Dave Sidenberg, Executive Director and CEO of BMI Sport Info. “As the creator of BMi MediaTrack – a comprehensive analysis of the media exposure generated by every sponsorship taking place in South Africa – ┬áJames provided our industry with an unrivalled measure for success.”

Monteith was the MD of South Africa’s Sport Industry Awards for three years, between 2013 and 2016.

“Following this, James returned to BMi where he continued to pass on his knowledge to the next generation,” said Sidenburg. “We all owe him an enormous debt of gratitude. It is a legacy to be proud of. He was much appreciated, known by everyone in our business, and will be sorely missed.”

“RIP my friend.”
