Nike and Apple team up on sports content

Apple has agreed a multi-year deal to develop and produce sports films and documentaries with two Nike-owned studios, according to a report by Deadline Hollywood.

The content, which will be created by Nike’s dedicated production labels Waffle Iron Entertainment and Makeready, will be financed by the technology company and streamed on its Apple TV+ subscription streaming service.

According to the report, the two companies will ‘team up to deliver a slate of films to inspire the next generation of athletes and celebrate the power of sport.’

The exact nature of the content is yet to be announced. Earlier in 2022, Apple TV+ produced and released the four-part sports docuseries They Call Me Magic, which featured NBA legend Magic Johnson, while Makeready’s Brad Weston has worked on sports films in the past, including the Oscar-nominated film The Fighter, which starred Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale, when he headed production at Paramount Pictures.
