The South African Football Association is offering to pay the national women’s team nearly R10m, should they win the Africa Women Cup of Nations in Morocco.

SAFA President Danny Jordaan made the announcement at a send-off press conference, saying the governing body would pay Banyana Banyana a total of R9.2m if they returned home with the trophy.

That means that each Banyana player will receive R400 000 if the tournament is won. A runner-up finish would see the players receive R55 000, third place, R40 000, and fourth, R30 000.

Banyana Banyana are in Group C and open their campaign against defending champions Nigeria on Monday, 4 July. Thereafter, they face group games against Burundi on 7 July and Botswana on 10 July.

If Banyana Banyana reach the semi-finals, they’ll qualify for the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
