CSA Turns Down Aussie Offer to Host Tour

Cricket South has turned down an offer from Cricket Australia to play next month’s scheduled Test series in Australia.

That’s after the Aussies announced they wouldn’t be making the trip to South Africa for medical and health reasons.

Cricket Australia citing the second wave of Covid-19 infections in South Africa and the new variant of the virus as some of the reasons behind their decision.

The series was due to take place in March and the postponement is a huge blow to Cricket South Africa’s coffers.

There were discussions between the two boards about potentially shifting the series to Australia, specifically to play it in Perth, where South Africa have long enjoyed a strong record of success.

However, the proposal fell down largely because CSA argued the extra time and money required for staging the series in Australia would make a range of other commitments impossible for South Africa to fulfil. Talks around a neutral venue such as the UAE were also shot down for similar reasons.
