Junior Women’s Hockey World Cup Welcomes Sponsors

Despite the tough sponsorship climate, the upcoming FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup has managed to attract some commercial backing.

The under-21, 16-team tournament will take place in Potchefstroom from 1–12 April at North West University’s Astro complex, and will be jointly hosted by the university, the International Hockey Federation (FIH), and the South African Hockey Association (SAHA).

Fibre giant Vuma leads the list of sponsors backing the World Cup and is the ‘Presenting Partner’ of the tournament.

“We’re very excited to help give these young hockey players a platform where they can showcase their talent and overcome any challenges they may be facing, both on and off the field,” said Lianne Williams, Head of Marketing at Vuma. “This partnership is yet another example of how Vuma’s philosophy of ‘if we can, we must’ continues to guide us in connecting people and empowering the next generation of female athletes to realise their dreams of becoming professional stars.”

Super Group is the tournament’s mobility and logistics partner, and there are further commercial relationships with Altron Document Solutions, featuring the brands Xerox and Lebone Litho Printers.

“I have long since admired the work ethic of South Africans – on field and off,” said Local Organising Committee Chairman, Sheldon Rostron. “We’re working tirelessly to create an event that is absolutely unrivalled in execution, and I believe that’s the reason behind the backing of some amazingly impressive brands. A tournament of this scale is not possible without corporate aid and I am truly grateful for their backing.”

Beverage brand Twizza – which operates in the carbonated soft drinks, energy and water categories – rounds off the sponsorship pool.
