Wheelchair tennis star Kgothatso “KG” Montjane has signed on to collaborate with Virgin Active as her ‘Official Health and Wellness Partner’.
The brand collaboration brings together the world number four and the fitness and wellness brand.
“Part of our commitment to working with inspirational athletes like KG is to help inspire South Africans to embrace health and wellness and find a love of fitness and exercise,” says Lyndsay Webster-Rozon, Virgin Active Marketing Director. “Having KG join our family and ‘Friends of Virgin Active’ is part of our continued partnering with sportspeople across South Africa who share our purpose of empowering people to live active lives – it’s what we stand for and why we exist.”
Montjane was the first black African female to play at Wimbledon and represented South Africa at the Paralympics in 2008, 2012 and 2016. She was also the first black African to compete at all four grand slams in one calendar cycle in 2019.
“I’ve always been obsessed with sport and fitness, and have managed to build a thriving career out of it doing what I love,” says Montjane. “Virgin Active is one of the most inspiring South African brands with a drive to connect and build relationships with an array of influential voices to showcase the positive benefits of all exercise experiences – something I’m excited to be a part of.”

Montjane started playing tennis at the age of 19 whilst studying at Helen Franz School in her home province of Limpopo. She then continued on to study a BSC degree in Recreation and Leisure whilst pursuing prospects of a full-time career in tennis. She currently practices at the University of Pretoria at the High performance Centre and also runs the Montjane Sports Development NGO, which seeks to establish sporting facilities in rural areas for the disadvantaged.
The collaboration will provide Montjane with access to the full suite of Virgin Active clubs and facilities that cater for her sports and fitness needs.
“The great thing about Virgin Active is that it is a brand that all of SA can relate to, and one that has members from all walks of life,” says Montjane. “It creates unique spaces fit for all, where everyone feels like they belong, regardless of their fitness level. I’m excited to work with them to inspire the country to get excited about living active lives.”
