LIV Golf launches Impact Leaderboard Programme

Share

LIV Golf has launched a new ‘Impact Leaderboard’ initiative, which ranks its 13 teams based on their commitment to sustainability throughout the season.

The Impact Leaderboard, which initially launched in beta version for 2023, will offer a prize purse of $150,000 for the 2024 campaign, with the winner set to receive $75,000.

Teams are required to invest the prize money into bolstering their impact and sustainability strategies.

The initiative forms part of the golf circuit’s ‘Potential, Unleashed’ programme, which was developed in partnership with social impact and sustainability consultancy Think Beyond.

The Leaderboard assesses teams based on nine scoring indicators. These include impacting young lives, sustainability, promotion, training and development, running your team, partnerships, and impact strategy categories.

Bonus points will be awarded at the end of the season for the team whose players and captains set the best example in implementing the team’s impact strategy, through the Captains Award. Meanwhile, the Standout of the Year award will go to the team that goes the furthest in terms of driving change.

LIV, which is headquartered in London, has also recently published its first impact report, detailing the league’s progress in education, golf opportunities and the fight against climate change.

In terms of education, the report revealed that LIV had positively impacted 120,000 young people by collaborating with 62 organisations, signing five multi-year LIV To Learn partnerships, and teaming up with Golf 4 Change.

As for sustainability, LIV reduced the quantity of single-use plastics at its events by more than 350,000 over the last year, and donated more than 50 tonnes of surplus food to local community groups. The organisation’s LIV Golf London event also received recognition as a GEO Certified Tournament by the GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf.

“When we launched Potential, Unleashed – LIV Golf’s groundbreaking impact and sustainability program – it was a statement of intent,” said Greg Norman, CEO and Commissioner of LIV Golf. “It reflected our commitment that social impact and sustainability would be central to our future. Our goal is to act as role models, leaders, and disruptors in this space and to push the limits of what’s possible. The 2024 season will see us continue delivering positive, meaningful change in every program within Potential, Unleashed. We will continue to embed our principles into everything that we do, on and off the course.”

South Africa is represented in LIV Golf by the Stinger GC team, made up of Louis Oosthuizen, Dean Burmester, Charl Schwartzel, and Branden Grace.
