Nedbank has unveiled the total prize purse on offer for the ‘Nedbank Runified: Breaking Barriers’ 50km event, which has attracted as strong field of local and international runners.
The ultra-marathon has been set up to create the platform for someone to break the 50-kilometre world record.
It takes place in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality on the 23rd of May.
Besides the winning male and female receiving R100 000 and a Biogen Hamper, there are also bonuses for new world records, as well as continental records.
The prize money breakdown is as follows:
Men & Women
- R100 000 plus Biogen hamper
- R40 000 plus Futurelife hamper
- R15 000 plus Bavaria hamper
- R8 000 plus Nike hamper

New World Record:
Men & Women
R150 000 each – This will only be paid to the winner of the event. If more than one athlete runs faster than the world record, only the winner will receive the bonus.

The current men’s record is 02:43:50, held by South Africa’s Thompson Magawana, whilst the women’s record is 03:07:20, held by Britain’s Alyson Dixon.
