Spur Steak Ranches has joined forces with SA Rugby to become the ‘Official Restaurant of the Springboks’.

The brand has resumed its partnership, having agreed to a deal that will see the restaurant chain partner with SA Rugby until the end of 2024.

Spur’s links with the Springboks stretch back to the 1990s. From its beginnings 55 years ago, the Spur Corporation is now the home of several restaurant brands and a South African business that has a footprint in international markets.

“If there was ever an iconic South African brand well-suited to the Springboks, it would most definitely be Spur. We are delighted to welcome back an old friend to the Springbok family – with the emphasis on families, which Spur plays an integral part in bringing together,” said Jurie Roux, CEO of SA Rugby. “We look forward to sharing the incredible journey the Springboks are on over the coming years and look forward to the great synergy between these two South African giants. The youth are important to the Springboks, and we have no doubt this partnership and brand association will win over the hearts and minds of the next generation, who love going to the Spur.”

As a result of the partnership, Spur will enjoy exclusive rights to provide Spur-branded kit to all ball-retrievers at domestic Test matches, which will include the Castle Lager Incoming Series and the local Tests of the Castle Lager Rugby Championship, and there will be additional player appearance privileges and exclusive rights to use intellectual property around the Springbok brand.

Vuyo Henda, Spur Corporation’s Chief Marketing Officer, said: “As a proudly South African brand, we are excited to partner with a world champion team. We recognise the power of sport in nation-building. For us, the Springboks are more than a rugby team, they are an inspiration and an emblem of national pride. Hence, we are thrilled to build on our relationship with SA Rugby and to leverage what Spur brings to the table as a home away from home for families. Children love coming to our restaurants to enjoy the fun-filled activities we offer, while their parents can enjoy watching the Springboks and share in the joy with their fellow South Africans.”

The Spur Group has a portfolio of brands with franchisees trading in over 600 outlets across South Africa, the rest of Africa, and the Middle East.
