The African Bank Soweto Marathon, which will take place on 3 November, has announced an extension of the registration deadline until entry capacity is reached.

This ensures that all runners have ample time to secure their spots for the 29th edition of the ‘People’s Race’.

In making the announcement, Soweto Marathon Race Management Committee spokesperson Thokozani Mazibuko said the run through Soweto was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

“Because of this, we want all from far and wide to come and enjoy this experience – from a first time 10km social runner to the elite’s competing for the coveted marathon title,” he said. “We’re closing in on our capacity, but wanted to urge all those on the brink of entering, to do so fast. It’s not an easy run, but it’s a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding one – which is proven in the repeat entries year on year. Come join us! Soweto looks forward to hosting you!”

Entries will be cut off when capacity is reached.

Entry fees for all three categories remain at the 2023 prices – namely R380 for the marathon, R300 for the 21.1km, and R280 for the 10km.

To enter, runners are encouraged to visit www.sowetomarathon.com. The prize money remains equal for both the male and female categories, with the winner of the 42.2km main race set to take home R250 000.

The race starts and finishes at Nasrec Stadium on Sunday, 3 November.
