Share

Broadcasters SuperSport and Viaplay have come together to produce a world first for club rugby, combining their talent and resources to co-produce the Vodacom United Rugby Championship Grand Final.

SuperSport and Viaplay will merge their match-day programming to give fans a comprehensive view of the DHL Stormers versus Munster URC decider in Cape Town.

By combining both production teams, on-air talent and their passion for innovation, both SuperSport and Viaplay will present from multiple locations at DHL Stadium with high-profile former internationals and presenters Motshidisi Mohono (SuperSport) and Ross Harries (Viaplay).

The match commentary will include South Africa’s Matthew Pearce, alongside former Munster and Ireland international Alan Quinlan, with ex-Springbok hooker Hanyani Shimange adding analysis from the touchlines.

Analysing the game and talking to key personalities on the day will be a cast of former Springboks and British and Irish Lions, including SuperSport’s Jean de Villiers, Schalk Burger, and Breyton Paulse, while Quinlan will join Tom Shanklin of Viaplay and there’ll be a guest appearance from CJ Stander.

“We are thrilled to see two of our broadcast partners work together in such an innovative way,” said Martin Anayi, CEO of United Rugby Championship. “There can be no great successes in the Vodacom URC without collaboration and we have seen that with our clubs and broadcasters throughout the season. We know there will be a sell-out crowd in Cape Town and now we know that the audiences in the UK and across South Africa will feel as close to the action as they can with this stellar line-up of talent on show. Our Grand Final is a unique event and it’s great to have the story-telling power of SuperSport and Viaplay combining to give fans all-round experience of the game.”
