The South African Football Association has a new Chief Executive Officer, after Tebogo Motlanthe’s resignation was accepted by SAFA’s National Executive Committee.
Chief Operating Officer Lydia Monyepao has been appointed CEO and becomes the first woman to hold the position on a permanent basis. Monyepao is a former Banyana Banyana player and team manager.

“The decision was unanimous,” said SAFA President Danny Jordaan. “Everyone agreed to the decision to have Lydia Monyepao. Congratulations and you must hit the ground running. She was appointed yesterday (7 May) and we must sit down for the terms and conditions which will be negotiated and signed. We must sit down and see if she is ready for one year, three years or five years.”
SAFA accepted Motlanthe’s resignation, but did not share the reasons for his decision. He won’t be required to serve a month’s notice and leaves SAFA with immediate effect.
Motlanthe was appointed by SAFA in January 2021, replacing Gay Mokoena, having previously served as the organization’s legal officer.
