Malone died in 2019 at the age of 81.
He won the Comrades Marathon in 1966, but was also part of arguably the race’s most memorable finish the following year, when Manie Kuhn beat him to the finish line after he stumbled within sight of it.
The 15km race gets underway at 06h00 on Sunday morning at Boksburg City Stadium in Jubilee Street and will be followed 10 minutes later by the start of the 5km fun run.
