Penny Heyns Teams Up with MatchKit

Former Olympic champion, Penny Heyns and former Springbok wing, Bryan Habana, have teamed up together with MatchKit to unlock commercial opportunities for swimmers and other aquatic athletes in the build-up to Tokyo 2021.

Double Olympic gold medallist, Penny Heyns, and World Cup-winning Springbok, Bryan Habana, have announced a partnership to enhance the marketability of all aquatic athletes, with less than a year to go until Tokyo 2021.

The pair will work together on rolling out MatchKit.co to Heyns’ aquatic network.

MatchKit.co is an international mobile web app, developed to help athletes maximise the commercialisation of their careers. Athletes can build their own mobile website in minutes, showcase their sponsors, receive commercial briefs, accept payments for their own foundation or a charity of their choice, and have an online merchandise store to sell branded caps, hoodies, t-shirts or personalised voice notes and videos.

“The platform is giving athletes an amazing opportunity to grow their brands and I have no doubt our aquatic athletes will benefit from it,” says Heyns. “I believe the product is an excellent tool for all athletes to market themselves and develop their brands in the most professional way. Some of the world’s, and indeed South Africa’s, greatest Olympic athletes come from the sport of swimming. While these athletes may enjoy icon status within the aquatics world with a huge social media following, they are still from a Cinderella sport, with few enjoying the exposure and sponsorship opportunities deserving of their sporting performances.”

According to Habana, who was part of the team behind the launch of Matchkit.co in June, athletes who are connected to the platform are reaching 5,600,000 fans globally, and their MatchKit profiles have been viewed more than 24,000 times by both brands and fans.

“Now more than ever, it is important for aquatic athletes to consider the development of their personal brand for the longevity of their career, beyond the pool,” says Heyns. “As a former Olympic champion, I can firmly attest to the fact that although building your profile as an international athlete is important, the true value will be evident as you pursue your post-pool career.”

All aquatics athletes can use the coupon ‘OmniStar’ when signing up to MatchKit. They receive a free month trial as well as a $2 discount off the $19.99 monthly subscription fee, always. Athletes can cancel the service at any time.
