The winners of the Motsepe Foundation Championship – Polokwane City – have pocketed R5m for winning the league, after the Premier Soccer League increased the prize money from the R2m that was awarded the past few seasons.
The campaign went down to the wire, with log leaders Cape Town Spurs, Casric Stars and third-placed Polokwane City all in the running for the title when they played their last matches in Cape Town, Ekurhuleni and Polokwane.

Ultimately, Polokwane City came out on tops after thumping Pretoria Callies 4-0 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, while Spurs and Casric Stars were held to draws in their matches.
The three points allowed Polokwane to finish level with Spurs on 57 points. However, Polokwane had a superior goal difference and the PSL declared Johnny Mogaladi’s team the NFD champions and with it, they gained promotion.
Polokwane previously won the NFD in the 2012-13 season and in subsequent years were relegated.
Mogaladi has appealed to the people of Limpopo to support his club to ensure they remain in the top flight.
